Hey All,
I started a new piece yesterday. I was inspired by a picture of a small Maori figure that sold at auction. This guy is 12" tall and 4" wide. The wood is cedar and so far I have used only mallet and hand chisels. I still have a very long way to go with him and I hope you will check back often to see progress as I post it.

Hawaiian-Style Stick Ki'i
Hey All,
I made a Hawiian Ki'i stick carving last night and today. This style of carving was used as an easily transported Ki'i that the users were able to push into the ground or sand nearly anywhere they pleased. It was carved with mallet and hand chisels from mahogany and was finished with rejuvenating oil. He will get several more coats of oil and a custom display stand over the next few weeks.

Completed Hawaiian-style Ku Pendant
Hey all,
Here are some final pictures of a Ku pendant I carved from a piece of Royal Palm (I think). This is its natural color with a little rejuvenating oil rubbed on to seal him up. He's a neat little guy. I carved a little depression in his back so that he can be rubbed similar to a "worry stone."
