Hey All,

Here are a few pics of the little figure with the second coat of stain. He's still sucking in the stain in a some areas. I may put a third coat on him before I switch to the finishing oil.

Small Figure Update

Hey All,

Here are a few pics I took as I was staining the little warrior figure today. I will put one more coat of stain on him and then start applying the oil finish.

Sanding, Sanding, Sanding.....

I need at least 4 more hours of sanding time and then I can get him in stain and oil. He's not perfect, but I am happy with him so far.

Here are a few progress pics of the small figure carving. We had a tropic storm coming onshore this morning so I stayed in and watched movies and chipped at him. I'm enjoying working on him. More to come....

New Small Maori Figure Carving Started

Hey All,

I started a new piece yesterday. I was inspired by a picture of a small Maori figure that sold at auction. This guy is 12" tall and 4" wide. The wood is cedar and so far I have used only mallet and hand chisels. I still have a very long way to go with him and I hope you will check back often to see progress as I post it.

Hawaiian-Style Stick Ki'i

Hey All,

I made a Hawiian Ki'i stick carving last night and today. This style of carving was used as an easily transported Ki'i that the users were able to push into the ground or sand nearly anywhere they pleased. It was carved with mallet and hand chisels from mahogany and was finished with rejuvenating oil. He will get several more coats of oil and a custom display stand over the next few weeks.
